Every city has a social undercurrent where life really happens. Forget the surface view of shops and neon signs. It’s the people and the groups that mingle in it’s underbelly that make a society what it is. Iolanthus is no exception to this rule.

Large social groups gather in areas outside the cities core, each group claming derelict buildings and streets as their territory. No matter what you indium there is a group which can cater to your needs, form the artistic communities run by the Gothiks, to the run down politically motivated groups of Anarchists which roam the streets.
Each social group from the outside perspective seems very stereotypical, it’s not until you get to the core that you find a myriad of people all with differing opinions and ideas. The internal conflict of some groups is what keeps them alive, others have such a fragile balance that if one person speaks out of place then they are expelled. No matter how the internal workings of such social groups hold together, the unified external face thy put on and with others they interact with is also telling about the people within them.

There is no room in capitalist society for an artist, those that loose their job and the privileges that go with and tag on to social group as a means of survival. Survival is the key, life on the streets is hard, and death lies in wait around every corner, being a loner usually means you have a trick or two up your sleeve, or you will be dead by dawn. Not everyone is part of these social groups however those that live the longest will at least show allegiance to one of them.

Clubs, bars and other hangouts, are prime grounds for fights, alcohol and other drug push people too far. There are many clubs known for the lax rules, some even encourage fights as part of the evenings entertainment. These days going out for a drink can be just as dangerous and trying to hack a corporate mainframe.

Among the Blanks, Zeros, Anarchists, Socialites and other cliques lies the core of human society, a colourful cacophony working together to survive and prosper.
