Since the Media Wars of 2042, the Hyper Corporations have been in control everyone’s lives. Out of the war came three companies, which have taken advantage of, and bought out, the smaller companies that fell by the wayside.

Jackson Cromwell Syndicate, Titus Robotics Inc and Transcendental Media Corp, emerged form the financial mess of the Media Wars, and went from strength to strength. Nearly sixty years on and the three Hyper Corporations now own ninety percent of the worlds companies and financial organisation.
Australia with its vast expanses of unpopulated land, is nicknamed The Free States by it residents. It’s the only place in the world where the Hyper Corporations have no foot hold. It’s the home of the World Council; they are the only organisation that can make the Hyper Corporations quake in their boots. The World Council is the voice of the world’s people, dealing with issues and worldwide laws, and keeping the few freedoms the world has.

Since the implementation of the neurosys interface, every transaction is monitored, and spending trends are taken advantage of and controlled. The next big thing is carefully calculated and realised in limited quantities to brew a fever pitch demand, before a full scale release. Most products on the shelves has been developed and manufactured to be what everyone wants. It’s now the case that supply dictates demand.

Capitalism has reached its peak, the Hyper Corporations control everything, and they pay the wages which are then used in their stores, therefore recycling all the worlds’ money.
As the world's resources are running low, capitalism can only keep going while there are resources which can be turned in to products. The World Council has recognised this fact, and is pushing for a change in the way the world’s governments are run.

Where will we go from here, the control of the Hyper Corporations means the freedom to choose is just an illusion that has been cleverly constructed. The World Council’s doom-mongering about the fall of civilisation may well pan out to be true. If society is doomed we may as well party and enjoy what we have in its dieing years.
